Traveling to Lugano

By Air

The nearest major international airport is the Milan Malpensa Airport in Italy, which is about 60 km from Lugano. From Malpensa, you can take the Malpensa Express train to Lugano, or use the shuttle bus service directly to Lugano city center

By Train

Lugano is well-connected by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) with frequent train services from major Swiss cities and neighboring European countries. The Lugano train station offers easy access to the city and is just a short bus or taxi ride from the USI campus.

By Car

Lugano is accessible via the A2 motorway that runs through Switzerland, connecting to the north towards Zurich and to the south towards Milan. If you’re driving, please be aware of the parking facilities at USI, which may be limited during the conference. We recommend checking in advance for available parking options.

Getting Around Lugano

Lugano’s compact city layout and efficient public transportation system make it easy to navigate. From the Lugano train station, you can take bus number 6 directly to the USI campus. Taxis are also readily available (but expensive!), and many hotels offer shuttle services to major points of interest, including USI.

For attendees participating in workshops at the SUPSI Campus in Mendrisio, we’ve outlined the most convenient travel options below. The SUPSI Campus is conveniently located right at the Mendrisio railway station, making it easily accessible by public transport.

By Train from Lugano

The simplest way to reach the SUPSI Campus in Mendrisio from Lugano is by train. Direct trains run frequently between Lugano and Mendrisio, with a journey time of approximately 20 minutes. Upon arriving at the Mendrisio train station, you will find the SUPSI Campus immediately adjacent to the station.

By Car

If you prefer to drive from Lugano to Mendrisio, the journey typically takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. You can take the A2 motorway towards Mendrisio. Upon reaching Mendrisio, follow the signs to the city center or railway station, where you will find the SUPSI Campus. Please note parking availability in the area and consider using public parking facilities nearby.
